Jack Parow – Roomys EP Out Soon.

Posted by: musicalmover on: November 27, 2009

Jack Parow truly is original, he is in fact the “original donker dodgy afrikaans rapper”. The rest are just “fokken copies.”

He believes “everyone should have ice cream for Christmas and if you don’t like it cold and dripping, you should at least be able to pop it into your PC and listen to the man “gooi sexy korrek”

The Dangerously-Romantic-Afrikaans-Super-Star-Rapper is releasing his 8 track EP in USB form.

The “Jack Parow flavour is scaaarce” as only 600 Roomyse have been manufactured (and will be available from selected Musica and Look ‘n Listen outlets).  You’ll be able to watch two of his music videos as they are loaded on Roomys.

You can get your hands on it from the beginning of December!

Vredefest Electro Compilation

Posted by: musicalmover on: November 27, 2009

Herman Pretorius, MK AMP presenter worked hard to uplift the local live music scene.  He was a blood brother of the Bellville rock scene, having played in high school rock bands with Afrikaans rock heavyweights, Francois van Coke and Wynand Myburgh.  He died of testicular cancer in August this year.  The word he used to say so frequently, he can now finally experience…”Vrede”.

The Vrede Foundation is a Non-Profit organization, started as a result of Herman’s story.  The profit of the album will go to this organization to help more young people like Herman.

“The whole idea of this compilation came about when Herman played us his remix of Hyg Duiwel.  This is how we will remember him.  Balls to the wall.  Vrede my vriend.” -Hunter & Pierre (Die Heuwels Fantasties)

The 2009 American Music Awards

Posted by: musicalmover on: November 23, 2009

“The American Music Awards honour the year’s top-selling artists in eight popular genres, with fans voting for the winners online. But even more than awards, the AMAs are about performances” and more than a dozen performed including: Whitney Houston, Alicia Keys and Jay-Z, Janet Jackson and Jennifer Lopez (who slipped during a tricky move and landed on her bottom-ouch)…

The big winners on the night were Michael Jackson (who won four posthumous awards) and Taylor Swift, stealing the show on Sunday, beating out the late King of Pop Michael Jackson for the Artist of the Year crown (how she managed that no-one can be quite sure).

The Black Eyed Peas, won favourite Pop/Rock band, Greenday beat Kings of Leon and Shinedown to take the honour of ‘Favourite Rock Artist’. Other winners Sunday included Jay-Z, Beyonce, Keith Urban and Rascal Flatts.

Of the many performances of the night, the two that got people talking were Lady Gaga and Adam Lambert.

Gaga, wearing a futuristic naked body suit launched into a typically theatrical performance of new single ‘Bad Romance’ (she set her instruments on fire, stabbed violins and then in proper rock n’ roll style smashed the violins to pieces on her piano) her performance saw the crowd give her a standing ovation…

But Adam Lambert definitely stole the show with his shock-and-awe debut of “For Your Entertainment” something that will certainly be talked about for quite some time, and some have said that it might have even over-shadowed the award winning night for Taylor Swift and Michael Jackson.

“He delivered on his promise of a “sexy” performance as he closed the live show with simulated oral sex from a male backup dancer, a brief make-out session with his male keyboardist and a giant mirrored prop so the audience could see the looks on their own shocked faces” reports Rolling Stone.

The kiss was reminiscent of Britney Spears and Madonna’s lip-lock that stole headlines at the 2003 Awards. He certainly “traded in his “American Idol” image for sex, leather and chains on Sunday.”

All in all the 2009 American Music Awards provided a night full of entertainment, some PG rated and some rather risqué.

Enjoy Adam’s performance below.

Official Videos: Rihanna Rated R Album Launch Party

Posted by: musicalmover on: November 23, 2009

Rihanna made history when she performed for a global audience via Nokia’s live streamed concert in London on the 16th of November, the concert officially marked the launch of her much anticipated new album, Rated R.

She did a range of tracks, from old favourites to never performed live tracks from Rated R.

If you missed the concert-never fear- official videos have been made available and here are a few of my favourite performances:

Russian Roulette (It’s the first single off her new album and describes her tumultuous relationship with Chris Brown).

Disturbia (she took the rather edgy track and toned it down)

Take A Bow (one of my surprise favourite-watch it and you’ll see why)

Double 99-“Rip Groove”

Posted by: musicalmover on: November 21, 2009

The Record was made in just 4 hours. In the kitchen of a one bedroom flat in London. It had a bass line that “rocked any club and went on to champion a whole new era.” In 1997 it was the first UK Garage record to go into The National Charts, twice, all in the space of 3 months!

There was not a DJ on the land that did not embrace this record. It’s Double 99 “Rip Groove” and they’re back.

The package contains two mixes one from the man of the moment The Count aka Herve. “Mega” Herve has remixed for the like’s of Lily Allen, The Prodigy, Calvin Harris, Mark Ronson and Bassment Jaxx and this is just to name a few.

Mix two is from an up and coming 17 year old producer called Josh Kinsella from Newport South Wales and goes by the name of ‘Kenzy’ he was the winner to the Skint Records remix competition! “This boy is on fire.”

“These massive Mixes are upfront, tight and enough to take you back to that exciting moment when music could make you feel good, so make sure you get on board.”

You can download the mixes here: “Rip Groove”  The Count aka Herve Remix Kinzy Remix

Two Door Cinema Club

Posted by: musicalmover on: November 20, 2009

Two Door Cinema Club are a music-mad trio whose rhythmic alternative pop draws on electronica, rock, Afro-beats and “fizzes with invention and sparkling tunes.”

Their music has been loosely compared to the likes of Death Cab for Cutie and Broken Social Scene but without a definitive capacity to be pigeon-holed. Melodic vocals, which hail from all three members of the outfit, infused with guitar riffs that have been described as “oceanic” and rhythm described as “pulsing”.

If you like Foals or Bloc Party, there’s a very good chance you’ll like these guys!

Thanks to Sean for the heads up about the band.

Enjoy the video for I Can Talk below.

Beyonce and Lady Gaga team up.

Posted by: musicalmover on: November 17, 2009

Beyonce and Lady Gaga have teamed up for the song Video Phone.

Beyonce goes through an impressive 9 outfit changes throughout the video. Lady Gaga is surprisingly toned down in this video (unlike her others) that’s because Gaga wanted to seamlessly blend in with Beyonce’s sexy, cool style. “‘I don’t want to show up in some frickin’ hair bow and be fashion Gaga in your video,’ I said [to Beyonce],” Gaga told MTV. “‘I want to do you” and yes, Lady Gaga can keep up with Beyonce whilst dancing . Kudos to her.

I like it. Do you?
