Graffiti6. Stare Into The Sun.

29 Aug

Jamie Scott? Check. Literal translation of lyrics?  Check. Party scenes? Check. Broken hearts? Check. Jamie Scott in a suit? Check.

Graffiti6 recently released their video for ‘Stare Into The Sun’, it has a simple and frivolous concept which works wonderfully with the song. I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again; they are fast set to become one of the hottest British exports. Jamie’s amazingly soulful voice coupled with their electro pop sound will sure to see Graffiti6 go far.

Lucky Date – Ho’s & Disco’s (Midnight Conspiracy Remix).

26 Aug

Midnight Conspiracy can do no wrong. No really, they can’t. Co-conspirators Graham Geren, Louis Kha and Mikul Wing have taken the Chicago scene by storm since their official debut in January. Since then it’s been hard keeping up with the flurry of releases from these three in past few months.

After a string of successful remixes ranging from italo-disco to dubstep including Chromeo’s “Night By Night, Crystal Castles’ “Vietnam” and a “dreamy dubstep re-imagining” of Esser’s pop anthem “Headlock”. They go hard with this electro-banger of a remix for Lucky Date’s “Ho’s & Disco’s”. With an epic build-up and massive drop, Midnight Conspiracy has been destroying crowds at their shows with this big room anthem. You can download it for free here.

They are also set to release heavier official remixes of Shinichi Osawa, Editors, Innerpartysystem, Crookers and fellow Chicagoan Gemini Club later this year so keep an eye out for those!

D is for Delightful. Free tickets to New Holland and more.

26 Aug

“…overwhelming energy and flawless stage performance…” – Jurgen Von Wechmar – Sunset Recording Studios

Since their arrival on the SA music scene three years ago, New Holland has become synonymous with high-energy shows in packed out venues. They have toured South Africa extensively, playing to massive crowds at all the major SA music festivals.  They were nominated for a 2010 SA Music Award, their video for “Freedom!” reached number 1 on the MK Top 10 chart where it remained for 10 weeks altogether, spending two weeks at number 1. More recently the band have been in studio, working on their third album – due for release in 2011 and will have a brand-new single out in September.

This Saturday they’ll bring yet another one of their high-energy, feel-good shows to the The Assembly on Saturday, performing with Third World Spectator & Red Huxley before they set out on a 10-date nationwide tour in September.

I have a double ticket to give away, all you have to do is tell me why you’d like to go and it’s yours!

Phil Collins. Going Back.

24 Aug

Phil Collins. He’s sold over 100 million records, has a successful career both solo and with the band Genesis. He also has eight Grammy awards and a Best Original Song Oscar to his name and now Phil Collins is back.

Although he hasn’t written a song on his new album Going Back, he compiled a collection of his favourite Motown covers, the album is due for release on September 13th 2010.

The first single is Heat wave, originally a hit for Martha And The Vandellas,  “It shouldn’t really be a surprise to anyone that I’ve finally made an album of my favourite songs,” explains Collins.  “My idea, though, was not to bring anything ‘new’ to these already great records, but to try to recreate the sounds and feelings that I had when I first heard them.  My intention was to make an ‘old’ record, not a ‘new’ record.  To be able to have three of the surviving Funk Brothers play on all the tracks was unbelievable.

There was one moment when they were tracking ‘Heat Wave’ that I experienced a wave of happiness and wonder that this was actually happening to me!  I learned more about production skills and the wonderful song writing of those concerned whilst making this album, than I have from anything else.  To those pioneers… much love and gratitude.”

Enjoy the video for Heat wave below.

Future Sounds of South Africa. Apollo Artist Agency Launch.

24 Aug

Join us for a fabulous showcase-party in introducing Cape Town`s new music management company: Apollo Artist Agency. The company came about as a natural progression when Brendan Sterley  (Former Manager Punskelm, Fokofpolisiekar and aKING) teamed up with Dawid, Henk and Janneman Fourie (Audiomatik Events & Ramfest). In joining their skills to offer a professional service in assisting artists/bands with the administrative side of their careers,  Apollo Artists Agency is happy to announce that everthing is now in place for take off.

The goal of Apollo Artist Agency is to create a structure where new or existing artists and bands can slot into an environment where Apollo handles the daily business, marketing, and logistical tasks required to help create and support a successful brand.  In this way the artist can focus on their artistic expression and reap the benefits of a creatively structured management agency.

Apollo ultimately honors a band as a brand and the most important aspect of the agency will be to build up this brand and establish and manage a concept that will present and enhance the band`s profile  in a competitive industry.

Apollo will be working with artists and DJ`s from a wide variety of genres including Rock, Country, Hip Hop, Dubstep and Drum and Bass. Van Coke Kartel, Stepdog, P.H Fat, SFR, Hyphen and Psydstep are already signed to Apollo Artists Agency and will be performing at the launch party.

Brendan Sterley is excited about the new venture: “Due to a lack  of artist-management agencies in general, artists and bands have been trying to create music, as well as market and manage themselves. This, more often than not, has proven to be an almost impossible task. We are providing a platform for bands to excel and ultimately make a living from their music.  The artists will be able to focus on their artistic expression and reap the benefits of the support of a creatively structured management agency.”

Venue:  Mercury Live, De Villiers Street, Cape Town.

Date:     Wednesday  22 September

Time:     19h30. Sharp

Tickets for the public will be limited to only 200 at a cost of R30 each.

Tickets will be available at the door on the night on a first come first serve bases.

F**k You.

23 Aug

I love Cee Lo Green. It’s great to see he is back in action. His album, The Lady Killer features collaborators including renowned producers Salaam Remi and Fraser T. Smith. He might back but he’s not happy. His song ‘F**k You’ is proof of that.  It got over 1 million plays in 48 hours and 50 Cent likes it too, in fact he has done his own remix and video – without Cee Lo’s knowledge- posted to Youtube and it already has 40 000 views. Not too shabby.

F**k You is deceptively happy and will have you singing along (karaoke style) in no time at all. Enjoy the video below!

p.s. A full video will be out some time next week – keep an eye out for it.
