Kyrah.

4 May

Meet Kyrah. Who? The all-singing, all-dancing, witty-writing, piano-playing, globe-trotting, Hollywood-hanging, legwarmer-wearing, nightclub-scamming, publicity-courting, paparazzi-posing, fashion-fixing, sexy-pouting, glam-trashing, hard-working, harder-playing Kyrah, that’s who.

She’s a mix between Britney, Uffie and Ke$ha and has already been causing a stir on with her debut single ‘Uh Oh’.

Kyrah touched down in Hollywood aged 19 with nothing but a hissing demo she’d recorded in a dingy hut in Singapore, having already been ripped off by a dodgy manager in the UK. Together with her best friend she cut the track ‘Boomerang’, which was finally picked up by local radio and won an award for the most played tune on independent radio. Before she knew it, Kyrah was performing at legendary venue Whiskey A Go Go and partying with the young Hollywood elite.

She’s subsequently spent the last few years in the Hollywood hills working on some punchy pop that merges the best of Britney’s bravado with the sassiness of Katy Perry. The result is a “sonic sound that bursts with energy, pulsates with passion and oozes with edginess.”

What do you think of the LA lady?

Yukon Blonde.

30 Apr

Listen to Yukon Blonde. They will blow your mind.

The band is comprised of Jeff Innes, Brandon Scott, Adam Newton, and Graham Jones. They were featured on the Music Alliance Pact this past March and I(Heart)Music had this to say about them: “There are all kinds of great power-pop bands from decades past that could be referenced when talking about Yukon Blonde. But you know what? As songs like Rather Be With You show, Yukon Blonde are a lot more than their influences, and it’s not hard to imagine that it won’t be long before future bands are referencing them as an influence.” I couldn’t agree more.

You can download Yukon Blondes’ ‘Rather Be With You’ for free here.

Volume Rock Fest 3 – Join the Herd.

29 Apr

Volume Rock Fest 3 will be taking place on Friday the 7th of May in Potchefstroom. Everyone will be getting down in, around and about Pablo’s (and the change of venue promises to make the party warmer, charmer and less “farmer”).

The organizers in all their wisdom thought that since everyone behaves like wild animals, you might as well dress as, well, animals. Think sexy little Bambi-lashes-on-steroid-mascara and Rocknoceroses parading their horns around…

The boogie-ing will start off at 16:00 with the likes of Ryno Velvet, Fire Through the Window, Dans Dans Lisa, Taxi Violence, Tidal Waves and Ashtray Electric and continue well into the morrow with some proper dancing and prancing to the beat of Doctor Khumalo, Moe Joe and Peter Rocka.

I have 3 sets of double tickets to give away. Awesome I know. All you have to do is tell me what animal you’d dress up as and why.

Get going!

Plan B.

28 Apr

He has been called no ordinary MC. “He can spit rhymes and hold his own against any MC or rapper, but can then suddenly switch into a delicate, sweet white soul croon that would shame any boyband member.” He is Plan B.

He has released his highly anticipated second album ‘The Defamation of Strickland Banks’, where he focuses more on his singing abilities, rather than rapping, something that is proving to be be highly successful. Lyrically the album’s songs tell  fictitious tale of one Strickland Banks – a sharp-suited British soul singer who finds fame with bitter-sweet love songs but then loses everything when he ends up in prison for a crime he didn’t commit.

With a nod to jazz, Plan B is bringing the swinging sixties back. Want proof? Have a listen to ‘She Said’ a song climbing up the charts around the globe.

Enjoy!

Iron Man destroys Rochester Castle!

23 Apr

The official footage of AC/DC and Iron Man ‘destroying’ Rochester Castle has now been released. As AC/DC puts it “On the site of a thousand years of violent history, AC/DC were pitted against Iron Man in a ground breaking architectural projection mapping project.  The front facade of the Great Keep at Rochester Castle, was brought to life using the latest in 3D animation techniques. This onslaught of the senses, saw the castle confront it’s ultimate challenge. Warping, morphing, spewing and collapsing before the audiences eyes. Let there be rock!”

Ground-breaking AC/DC and Iron Man 2 Architectural Projection Mapping show at Rochester Castle.

21 Apr

5 days ago a very special event took place in Rochester. The world’s first Architectural Projection Mapping to incorporate live footage was staged at Rochester Castle in Kent.

The amazing stunt was produced by Seeper and included AC/DC and Iron Man 2 iconogaphy. Three seven-minute visual displays were shown and as the footage shows it really was immense!

Below you can see it for yourself! Insane isn’t it?
