Electrolightz.

14 Mar

Pop. Check. Electro/hip-hop. Check. Party rockers. Check.

Allow me to introduce you to Electrolightz. The band, comprised of singer Rami Dearest, rapper Namebrand, producer erOc and drummer Barry Romance are building a major following in LA with their raucous live shows, as well as worldwide for their remixes.

If you like the grooviest beats, interwoven with the slickest rhymes mixed in with an indie flair Electrolightz is for you.

Electrolightz have enough of a commercial to appeal every genre and their Interscope endorsed remixes of Lady Gaga’s “Bad Romance,” “Telephone,” and La Roux’s “Bulletproof” ones to keep an ear out for.

They have released a Mixtape and the 38-minute download has original songs that are set to get head bopping and remixes to get you dancing.

You can download the Mixtape here. It’s something I highly recommend you do. Now.

Die Antwoord sign to Interscope records.

13 Mar

So it’s official, Die Antwoord has just been signed to Interscope records. The record label boasts other famous artists like Lady Gaga,Snow Patrol, Dr Dre, 50 cent, Black Eyed Peas and Limp Bizkit.

Never fear, signing to a major record label won’t change Die Antwoord. Promise. Not conforming is what they do best.

Die Antwoord, consists of “Ninja”, “Yo-landi Vi$$ser” and DJ Hi-Tek. Their video for“Enter the Ninja” became a hit on the internet and propelled them to worldwide fame.

The record deal will serve as a platform for international exposure (even more so than before). They also have Neill Blomkamp (the director of District 9) set to direct their next video.

It’s likely that they’ll be “performing at the Coachella festival, and a film is in the works” One described as something “like an hour-long introduction to a music video, like Thriller, only you can eat popcorn while you watch it at the cinema” says Ninja to Boing Boing

He tells them of their meeting with Interscope ” Jimmy Iovine was telling me all about how badly their business has been harmed by the internet,” Ninja says, sipping black coffee. ” I can understand that but I said, ‘Jimmy, I want to give you a piece of samurai advice: Become the enemy.”

Now that’s Zefness to the max.

Lady Gaga ft. Beyonce. Telephone.

12 Mar

Him: “The video is a drug fueled violent lesbo orgy with Gaga and Beyonce in the Pussy Wagon they used in Kill Bill” Me: “Srsly?” Him: “Yes.”

“You can watch the 9 minute video at your own leisure, whilst it might feel like a bandwidth waster it’s a very well executed video. Shock value all the way”

In the nine-and-a-half minute clip, at least 10 separate brands are plugged, including Virgin Mobile, Diet Coke, Polaroid (for which Gaga is a creative director)…

Ogle. Shmoogle. Google.

Yeasayer. O.N.E

12 Mar

Yeasayer hail from Brooklyn, NY. The experimental rock band is made up of Chris Keating, Ira Wolf Tuton and Anand Wilder. They describe their music as “Middle Eastern-psych-snap-gospel”.

Whilst their second single ‘O.N.E’ off their second studio album, ‘Odd Blood’ has me wanting more, it’s their music video that has me most excited. It’s Lady Gaga esque, but it’s not, it’s indie but it’s not, it’s retro and simply Yeasayer. Watch it here.

But what’s even more exciting than their amazing video is the fact you can download ‘O.N.E’ freely and legally here. What are you waiting for? Get going!

Watch out for Yeasayer, they’re going to be huge.

New Young Pony Club set to release ‘The Optimist’.

10 Mar

So you like New Young Pony Club? Well, with their latest release, ‘The Optimist’ you can “forget everything you thought you knew about the band, because on their second album it’s all changed…”

Their 2007 critically acclaimed, Mercury Music Prize nominated ‘Fantastic Playroom’ was “the culmination of the hybrid disco sound they pioneered but ‘The Optimist’ heralds the beginning of a brave new future for the band.”

The album was self produced and more importantly self funded, ‘The Optimist’ is “the sound of a band taking full control of their present and future, circumnavigating their own way.  It’s an assured, deliciously adventurous next step for New Young Pony Club. Open your ears and have a listen.

It will be available in the US on May 4th and digitally on April 6th worldwide.

“Chaos,” the first single from their second album The Optimist, has been called a song “still made for dancing, but singer Tahita Bulmer’s usual bravado softens to show some self-questioning and vulnerability” In anticipation of album’s release, New Young Pony Club is making the single “Chaos” available online for free. You can download it here.

Vitalic. Second Lives.

8 Mar

Pascal Arbez-Nicolas, recording and performing under the moniker Vitalic, last year confirmed his status as the Wagner of disco with  ‘Flashmob’ his second and finest longplayer to date, an album with a blistering, claustrophobically compressed production, beautifully brutal beats and madly addictive tunes, emotion, invention and melody, all delivered with a wink of its glittery disco eye.

Hot off the heels of his sold out US tour, electronic visionary and pioneer Vitalic is pleased to announce the “Second Lives” EP out March 22nd on PIAS AMERICA. The EP features remixes from The Bloody Beetroots and newcomer Colonel Up and Mister Down. In anticipation of the release, Vitalic is making The Bloody Beetroots’ remix available for free online. You can grab it here.

For his latest single, the emphatic ‘Second Lives’ Vitalic delivers a breathtaking romp that hurtles into space! Both beguiling and disorienting, ‘Second Lives’ combines the high energy of Vitalic classics LA Rock and Poney Part 1 with the sophisticated production techniques of Vitalic Version 2.0. In short it has everything you’d expect from the flying V, it’ll make you smile, shake your shit, and still walk away shaken by the music’s intensity…

The Sick-Leaves: Last Dance of the Sugarplum Fairy.

8 Mar

The Sick-Leaves release third album Last Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy

Twice SAMA nominated artist The Sick-Leaves independently release highly anticipated third album Last Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy on 8th March 2010.

Renowned Grammy Award winning producer, Darryl Torr produced this album from The Sick-Leaves that was recorded in November 2009 at SABC’s M5 studio. The album follows from the critically acclaimed SAMA nominated first & second albums Tunnel Vision & Stone the Crow (2007 & 2009 respectively), with Stone the Crow also having been released independently. Bruce Dennill, editor of CitiVibe has said of the album: “The Sick-Leaves continue to build one of South Africa’s most intriguing musical brands with shorter, sharper, more accessible songs – including the blistering “Coz You Like It” – on new album “Last Dance Of The Sugar Plum Fairy”.

Last Dance of The Sugar Plum Fairy consists of eleven original songs as composed by singer/songwriter/guitarist Eksteen Jacobsz, with all instrumentation except for drums, tracked by him. These songs are punchy and catchy featuring epic guitar solos and new themes with a total album length being twenty minutes less than that of Tunnel Vision or Stone the Crow. The album is guitar driven rock, yet its sound differs quite considerably from that of the first two albums due to the influence of producer, Darryl Torr, the experience gained since the release of Stone the Crow in 2008 and a new direction in song writing. The album has already been well received in the media following the media launch held on Wednesday 24th February in association with Jose Cuervo at Narina Trogon, Johannesburg.Photographer Sean Brand designed all the album artwork using infrared photographs taken in Namibia to fit with the concept of the album.

Recent accolades for The Sick-Leaves include a 2010 MK Award nomination for the animated music video ‘All These Foolish Things (I’ve said)’ and a (Live)5 performance on national radio station 5FM’s live performance show at the end of January. The first single ‘Coz you like it’ is currently on rotation on regional & campus radio stations countrywide with previous singles off Tunnel Vision and Stone the Crow having reached the number one position on a number of SA campus charts. ‘Such a Waster’ & ‘All These Foolish Things (I’ve said)’ were play listed on 5FM.

The Sick-Leaves performed at Ramfest Jo’burg, held on 6th March at Emmarentia Botanical Gardens and are on the line-up for Splashy Fen in April.

Upcoming and current media coverage of The Sick-Leaves includes a feature interview on ETV Showbiz Report, Vuzu V-Entertainment interview & performance footage from the launch, MK Live interview, MK Studio 1 interview, MK Extra interview from media launch, Speakerbox feature & photo gallery, Zoopy interview, MIO interview, Entertainment Africa event review Super 5 media interview, as well as extensive print, online & radio interviews to promote the album.

The artist, Eksteen Jacobsz is excited for the release as saying: “The album signals a new direction for The Sick-Leaves & yet it still contains all The Sick-Leaves elements that were put in place by the first two albums. I can’t wait to play these songs live and take it to new ears all around the country”.

High profile performances of 2009 included: Friday night main stage performance at Oppikoppi: Smoorverlief, Rocking the Daisies, Synergy Live, Pinkie Fest, Vrede Fest III, St Stithians College Arts festival, MK’s Studio 1 as well as many club gigs around the country in Cape Town, Stellenbosch, Durban, Bloemfontein, Potchefstroom, Nelspruit and Polokwane.

“All These Foolish Things (I’ve said)’ off Tunnel Vision was used as the soundtrack for the 2009 Rocking the Daisies tv & radio ad on 5FM, MK & Vuzu with the music video being on rotation on MTV Europe, Vuzu & MK. The Sick-Leaves are endorsed by Music Connection and are brand ambassadors for Springleap.

The Sick-Leaves is the solo project of Eksteen Jacobsz. The Sick-Leaves albums are available in stores nationally, internationally through CDBaby, Amazon and digitally through iTunes and other online sites with Last Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy to be available from 8th March.
