Commercial Music is Dead. Haezer discussion.

6 May

“Is it commercial when people buy it?  or is it commercial when it’s shitty music made for MASS appeal?” –  Haezer.

Haezer took to Facebook to discuss music. He says “Here’s just a little scribble to think about, since I’ve started making music under Haezer think I’ve sold like 100 tracks.  I have 79 000 hits on Youtube for my song Dominator, but hardly sold any of the remixes or original(of dominator that is) on Beatport.

Now, this is the interesting part, the general feeling I get from fans is this.”Dude, we’re not gonna pay for your tracks, because we’ll pay to see you live” and I get that. My argument is this.  How will you ever see artists if promoters don’t want to book them?  I know I’ve had quite a few tours around Europe and Australia.  But that was crazy hard work from my manager’s side and the faith of promoters that I will put up a good show. But generally, artists get booked according to their releases.  If you’re in the Beatport top 10 then promoters will look you up and book you.  I’m not saying all promoters.  But it definitely doesn’t hurt…”

He says “So, my question is.  Is that statement still viable?  Is it really okay to never buy an artist’s work? The other answer I get is…well dude, you’re the anti-commercial guy…you can’t expect people to buy your music. .”

He goes on to say “I thought of this today, because my new E.P is out on Beatport and I was wondering if it’ll ever make it in the top 10…there’s already a link where you can download the original in 320kbps.  It’s on Fix Up if you were wondering… http://fixup.se/ again. that was posted without my consent…” He adds “None of this is offense or hardcore statements…I’m just throwing around some questions and am very curious to see what peeps have to say…Lemme know.  let the opinions be spread.”

Frankmusik. Far East Movement. Do It in the AM.

4 May

My favourite electropop musician is back. Frankmusik has teamed up with Far East Movement and ‘Do it in the AM’ and I love it to bits.

The music video has just been released and it’s one big party. Looks like we missed out on some fun.

Introducing Drew Tabor.

3 May

I have some of the best news to tell all you pop cynics out there. It’s news to everyone in fact. It is now officially acceptable to like Justin Bieber, Katy Perry, Nicky Minaj and Lady Gaga. Oh and Rebecca Black, thrown in for good measure. That is if you didn’t have a secret stash of their songs iPod already.

So why have I made it official you ask? Well, my dears, I was recently pointed in the direction of Drew Tabor, ‘just a ginger with a dream’ or just a special and enormously talented singer. Take your pick. She takes hideous your not so favourite songs and transforms them into mystical, stirring acoustic renditions. One cannot stop listening. Simply magical. Wouldn’t you agree?

Oh and Lady Gaga has given Drew her stamp of approval, from the looks of it she is going to go far.

Trinity Orchestra meets Daft Punk.

3 May

Earlier this year the Trinity Orchestra, the only fully student run orchestra in Ireland, played Daft Punk’s album “Discovery” for all to hear. This happens to the first ever live full orchestral performance of Daft Punk’s music and it is one great performance.. This video shows the medley they played as an encore.

You like? I sure do.

As If. Sky Ferreira.

1 May

My favourite “art-glam-trash-pop teen” Sky Ferreira is back. If you don’t know of Sky take every preconceived notion you’ve had of a teen pop star and turn it on its head, then you might just have yourself Sky Ferreira, one of the most talented 17 year old’s out there.

Her EP ‘As If’ came out on in late March and boy oh boy, is it a treat. Sky has released official lyrics videos for three of her standout tracks and in a world saturated with identical acts, she is new, bold and refreshingly herself.  As per usual.

Enjoy!
