Intel teams up with Will.i.am.

8 Feb

He’s best known for being a multi-platinum music artist, producer and front man for The Black Eyed Peas, but will.i.am is also an innovator, technology fan, entrepreneur and philanthropist. With the announcement at the Anaheim Convention Center, the seven-time Grammy winner has added another title to his multi-faceted resume: “director of creative innovation.”

As an extension of his insatiable fascination with technology, which plays a significant role in his professional and personal lives, will.i.am will engage in a multi-year, hands-on creative and technology collaboration with Intel Corporation. He already sports an Intel ID badge, which he proudly showed off at a news conference in Anaheim, where Intel is holding an internal sales and marketing conference.

“Nearly everything I do involves processors and computers, and when I see an Intel chip I think of all the creative minds involved that help to amplify my own creativity,” said will.i.am. “Teaming up with the scientists, researchers and computer programmers at Intel to collaborate and co-develop new ways to communicate, create, inform and entertain is going to be amazing.”

Added Deborah Conrad, Intel vice president and chief marketing officer: “We’re thrilled to tap into the limitless creativity will.i.am brings to the table. He’s not only a brilliant artist and producer, but also an innovator pushing the bounds of technology professionally and personally. We share a strong interest in innovation around music, art and lifestyle, and are excited to join forces to establish an authentic, emotional connection with consumers.”

The relationship ties in with Intel’s “compute continuum” vision, in which more and more devices will compute and connect to the Internet, and the company’s “visual life” initiative that explores how visual experiences such as photos, videos and movies are redefining the relationship consumers have with laptops, smart phones, tablets and other devices.

In his unique role, will.i.am will collaborate with Intel on many creative and technology endeavors across the “compute continuum” that may include such devices as laptops, smart phones and tablets. Complementing his visionary role as the front man for The Black Eyed Peas, will.i.am is also already working on music expressly for Intel.
Specifics haven’t been disclosed, but Conrad said that the partnership between will.i.am and Intel is the marrying of two worlds — entertainment and technology — in order to create what she calls “the ultimate experience.”

“Intel is in the midst of transforming the way we communicate with people,” Conrad said. “Our partnership with will.i.am is a prime example of how we want to convey and deliver the Intel experience. It’s imperative that Intel and our innovations are kept in front of the global youth culture that embraces new devices and new forms of communication and entertainment.”

Ellie Goulding vs Daft Punk. B-Roc of The Knocks remix.

4 Feb

I am ridiculously obsessed with Ellie Goulding. She can do no wrong. In my quest for more of her music I just so happened to stumble upon on of the one of the most refreshing remixes of hers I’ve heard in a very long time.

It’s thanks to B-Roc of The Knocks who makes “French pop / Japanese Classic music”. Think Daft Punk. Think an overall groovy, smooth feel with a lovely twist. You will love it. Fact of life.

The only thing that makes it even better is that you can download it for free here. Amazing I know.

The MK Awards. 2011.

2 Feb

I am ridiculously excited for the The MK Awards this year. Firstly they are taking place in Cape Town and secondly they are taking place in Cape Town. The fact that it is the biggest rock event of the year where only the hottest South African artists and international acts will walk away with the coveted MK Award and that Foto na Dans, Zebra and Giraffe, Die Heuwels Fantasties ft. Thieve, Jack Parow ft. JR, Prime Circle and the Best Live Act  – as voted for by the fans – will all take to the stage? Well, that’s pretty cool too.

Boasting thirteen categories and 61 nominations it’s going to be one tough competition and with the Awards just around the corner, you need to book your ticket for the 26th of  February 2011 at the CTICC. It’s only R50 standing and R100 seated.  Not cool enough for you? Your ticket will also give you access to the hottest after party Cape Town has ever seen so come dressed for the part and show your face at the MK Awards 2011.

See you there!

Kings of Leon South African Tour. Postponed.

31 Jan

It is officially official. The Kings of Leon tour has been postponed until November. An uproar ensued after this tweet surfaced and now details have emerged that in order to allow drummer Nathan Followill time to recover from surgery for a torn right labrum and bicep doctors advised that he needed at least three months to recover post surgery, to ensure the injury doesn’t reoccur. Terrible news I know.

For all the fans who’ve already purchased tickets for the tour, the concerts are taking place on the 26th of October at the Cape Town Stadium and on the 29th of October at the FNB Stadium in Johannesburg. If you – unfortunately – can’t make the new concert dates you can get a full refund from Computicket.

RAMfest. 2011.

21 Jan

As the summer season hits its peak so does the festival circuit. RAMfest is upon us once more and this year, RAMfest, boasts 3 venues in 3 cities, over 5 days, across 6 stages. That means it’s going to bigger and even better than ever. This year`s line up includes two international bands: Alkaline Trio (USA) and Funeral for a Friend. (UK)  Die Antwoord, Van Coke Kartel and Zebra and Giraffe are the local acts that will be performing at all three RAMfest events.

Celebrating 5 years of Rock n Roll, the festival is set to raise the bar yet again. Not only are they going to deliver the music that you all love, they’re also breaking into some new genres that we feel deserve showcasing.
They’re adding a bigger dance stage, more and better camping facilities and to top it all off they have a couple of surprises up their sleeve.

It’ll take place in Cape Town at Nekkies Holiday Resort in Worcester from the 4 until the 6th of March. In Durban at WaveHouse on the 9th of March and finally in Joburg at Riversands Farm, Fourways on the 12th of March.

You excited yet? Get your tickets here.
